Notices:

• The Volocity 3D rendering and analysis software is now located on \\Snell, \\Nomarski and \\Schott image processing workstations
• A flat bed scanner with reflected or transparency mode is attached to \\Snell.  The USB scanner can be attached to \\YOUNG.  But this computer is rather slow.
• VHS video tape digitizer is available on this computer - convert video tapes into AVI/MOV files for inclusion into Power Points presentations or digital archiving

Introduction:

This Dell 8200 PC Image Processing Workstation runs Windows2000 and has various specialized and general purpose image processing software is installed on it.  This computer is called \\Young and is a member of the MHMICROSCOPY domain.  Hence files can be access and transferred between the various user directories on the facility computers. 

To logon onto this computer a username, password and domain must be entered.  All three must be correct, and, not only allow access to Young, be also determines which shared resources on the network the user has access to.  This is particularly important for access to domain servers.  Contact a MHMF director to request a user account.

Data Storage:

Users should save their data in a named directory in C:\USERS or \\MINSKY or the users2 on other computers in the facility . The c:\users directory is shared on the Microsoft Windows Network as \\Young\Users. Access to this shared directory over the network requires an account on the MHmicroscopy domain.  See Michael for more information.

  • 12X CD writer / 2.5X DVD+RW (use Snell for recordable DVDs DVD-R or DVD+R)
  • Video digitizing - e.g. VCR tape to avi file (comvert to .mov using QuickTime)
  • High resolution color and transmitted scanning - Epson Perfection 4180 Photo

   

  • Roxio Easy CD Creater 6 - CDs and DVD+RW burning
  • Adobe Photoshop 7.0
  • Adobe Premier 6.0
  • Microsoft Office 2000 - Word, Excel, Power Point, Access & FrontPage 2002
  • Winzip - file/directory compression - creates a zipped file archive from one or more files
  • LViewPro - quick 2D image viewer - Also does simple slide shows
  • QuickTime 6 Pro - can open image series (time or z) and make movies in various formats.  The Pro version of QuickTime has enhancements which are not enabled in the standard Quick Time 5 version.
