Resource Notes for Adobe Premiere 6

Notes:

• Capture only runs when user has Power User or Administrator privileges on the computer called \\Young - contact a facility director if you need such an account.

Digital Capture from VHS tape.

• Logon with a user account with admin or power user privileges
• Start Adobe Premiere
• Choose Mojave Analog
• File -> capture -> movie capture ->
• Movie Capture screen will display live video input (Power up VCR if necessary)
• Cue up position on VCR tape
• Press red record button to capture to disk
• Press Escape button to stop capture
• Do not do other activities on the computer (will mess up capture and may cause a crash)
• Will get error, but ignore, then File Name window (ap4) will come up
• File will go to c:\program files\adobe\premiere 6.0\ directory
  • Can change default

Other issues:

• Macrovision block sometimes turns on spuriously.  Cancel acquisition by pressing escape.  Re-cue tape and restart acquisition.
• Avi files are saved in Indeo v3.2  compression mode do not play in PowerPoint.   This codec is not supported by default in WindowsXP/Power Point - MCI (Media Control Interface).
• Converting into a Cinepak .avi for playing in PowerPoint
  • Open the Indeo v3.2 format .avi file in QuickTime Pro
  • Use "File --> "Open File" and browse to .avi file
  • Export
    • Use "File" --> "Export"
    • Export: "Movie to AVI"
      • Provide a file name
      • Choose "Options"
        • Choose "Settings"
          • "Cinepak"  or  "None" (Caution: file may be too large for PowerPoint)
          • Select ""Frames per second" as desired
          • Compressor Depth - choose suitable
          • Quality - usually Best
      • If Quick Time crashes try the work around below
        • From QuickTime Export as .bmp files
        • Run VidEdit v1.1
          • Import .bmp's into VidEdit v1.1
          • Adjust frames per second e.g. 15 f.p.s.
          • Save As .avi movie using Cinepak codec compression
