C-Imaging - SimplePCI - Exporting Images

Index

0. Introduction

SimplePCI acquisition will save data in a proprietary .cxd format, especially for time or z-series data.  This format has the advantage of including acquisition information such as time stamps, z-position, etc.   Note that single images can easily be stored directly as .tif format files, but this format does not include acquisition parameters.  The .cxd files can be exported using SimplePCI either on an offline workstation such as the \\Nomarsky or \\Snell computers, as well as on the acquisition computer associated with the microscope used.

1. Considerations

When exporting it is prudent to consider the image file requirements of the program which is going to use the images.  For instance data should be 8 bit gray scale or monochrome (e.g. indexed color) or 24 bit RGB (8 bit for the red, green & blue channels each).  For movies the vidoe format needs to be chosen.  e.g. For Windows Power Point .avi format either uncompressed or Cinepac is best for better compatibility with all versions of Windows.  For Macs .mov (Quicktime) format is best and image sequences need to be first exported as .avi or .tif series and then converted using QuickTimePro.
